You earn money. You work hard for it. But does your money actually stay?

And at the end of the month, you wonder:
“Where did all the money go?”
If this sounds familiar, before looking for another investment, another income source or another financial remedy, take a few minutes to look at something very simple in your home:
Where is your Tijori or locker placed?
And even more importantly:
Which direction does your Tijori open towards?
This is where Tijori Vastu becomes relevant.
According to traditional Vastu Shastra, the placement and opening direction of a Tijori, locker or safe are commonly considered when assessing the wealth-related arrangement of a home.
This does not mean that moving a Tijori will automatically make you wealthy.
Your financial stability depends on your income, expenses, savings, investments, business decisions, debt and financial discipline.
But if you are already working toward a more stable financial life, why ignore the space where you keep your valuables and important financial assets?
With 10 years of Vastu consultation experience, I have found that people often think carefully about their furniture, kitchen and décor but give very little thought to the placement of their Tijori.
So let's look at where to keep a Tijori at home, which direction it should open towards, what to avoid, and what you should check before changing its position.
First, understand the difference between Tijori placement and opening direction.
This is where many people get confused.
When someone searches:
“Which direction is best for Tijori?”
there are actually two different questions.
Where should the Tijori be placed?
And:
Which direction should the Tijori door open towards?
Both are important.
In traditional Vastu practice, the North direction is associated with Kubera, traditionally regarded as the deity of wealth.
Because of this association, the North is commonly discussed in relation to wealth, financial opportunities and prosperity.
However, this does not mean:
“Put the Tijori anywhere in the North.”
The exact room, wall, placement, opening direction and overall home layout should be considered together.
That's why I don't recommend following a single Vastu rule blindly.
Your home is not a diagram from a textbook.
It has a particular shape, entrance, rooms, walls and practical limitations.
So where should you keep your Tijori at home?
A commonly followed Vastu approach is to place a heavy Tijori or safe in an appropriate South, South-West or West area of a suitable room, with the Tijori opening towards the North, where practical.
The reasoning is based on two traditional principles:
Heavy objects are generally considered more suitable toward stable/heavier zones.
And:
The North is traditionally associated with wealth and Kubera.
But this should not be interpreted as a universal formula.
You cannot simply look at your house and say:
“South-West is good, so I'll put my Tijori anywhere in South-West.”
The exact placement matters.
The room matters.
The wall matters.
The entrance matters.
The overall property matters.
So before moving a very heavy safe, understand the complete arrangement first.
Why is the North direction associated with wealth?
In traditional Vastu Shastra, the North is associated with Kubera, the deity traditionally connected with wealth.
This is why the North is often considered while discussing:
Wealth
Financial opportunities
Income
Prosperity
Business-related financial growth
For this reason, a Tijori opening towards the North is a commonly recommended Vastu principle.
But there is an important distinction:
A Vastu principle is not a financial guarantee.
If a business isn't profitable, changing the Tijori direction will not fix its business model.
If expenses are consistently higher than income, Vastu will not replace financial planning.
If someone is carrying excessive debt, they still need a responsible repayment strategy.
Think of Tijori Vastu as one part of your home's Vastu—not a replacement for financial intelligence.

If possible, don't just keep reading.
Walk to your Tijori.
Open it.
Look at it carefully.
Which direction are you facing when you open the door?
If your Tijori is arranged to open towards the North, that is traditionally considered favourable in many Vastu practices.
If it opens in another direction, don't immediately think:
“That's why I'm losing money.”
That conclusion would be far too simplistic.
Instead, treat it as one factor that can be reviewed as part of the complete home Vastu.

What if your Tijori is in the North-East?
This is an important point.
The North-East, traditionally known as the Ishanya zone, is generally preferred to remain relatively light, clean and open in Vastu practice.
Because of that, placing a large and heavy Tijori in the North-East is generally not the first choice in many Vastu approaches.

Don't immediately start construction.
Don't spend thousands of rupees on remedies.
First look at the complete property.
If a heavy safe can be relocated practically without creating another problem, its placement can be reviewed.

One Vastu rule should never create unnecessary fear.
Why is South-West often considered for heavier objects?
The South-West is traditionally associated with stability, strength and weight.
This is one reason why heavier objects are commonly considered more suitable in this area.
A Tijori itself is naturally heavy.
So, in some Vastu approaches, placing the Tijori appropriately toward the South-West while ensuring a suitable opening direction is considered.
But remember:
South-West doesn't automatically mean “put the safe anywhere here.”

Look at the wall.

Look at the windows.

Should the Tijori face the main door?
This is another question people often ask.
There is no need to blindly follow a rule such as:
“The Tijori must face the main entrance.”
The more important consideration is the Tijori's placement and opening direction within the room, along with the overall home layout.
A Tijori opening towards the North is a commonly recommended Vastu principle.
But that doesn't mean you should rotate your safe toward the main door without considering anything else.
Don't fix one thing by creating another problem.
Can you keep a Tijori in the bedroom?

No.

If yes, assess the options.
If no, look at the rest of the home.
The property may have limitations.
The safe may be extremely heavy.
The room may not provide many alternatives.
There may be other Vastu factors that are more relevant.

A simple Tijori Vastu checklist you can use today
Take five minutes and check these points:
1. Where is your Tijori placed?

The biggest Tijori Vastu mistake: focusing on one direction
Suppose someone tells you:
“Keep your Tijori in the North.”
You do it.
But you haven't considered the room.
You haven't considered the opening direction.
You haven't considered the North-East.
You haven't considered the overall layout.
You haven't considered practicality.
Can one rule solve everything?
No.
This is why I don't recommend treating Vastu like a collection of isolated formulas.
Your home is a system.
The Tijori is one part of that system.
Its placement needs to be understood within the complete property.
What I have learned from 10 years of Vastu consultation
After 10 years of Vastu consultation, one thing has become very clear to me:
Two homes can have the same Tijori but require completely different recommendations.
If someone asks me:
“Pandit Ji, where should I keep my Tijori?”
I don't want to give them an answer without understanding their property.
I want to know:
Where is North?
Where is the North-East?
Where is the South-West?
Where is the main entrance?
Which room is being used?
Where is the Tijori currently placed?
Which way does it open?
What is around it?
Is there a bathroom nearby?
What is the overall property shape?
Only then can I determine what actually deserves attention.
That's why I don't believe in giving the same Tijori Vastu solution to every home.
Your property is different.
Your family is different.
Your requirements are different.
Your Vastu assessment should reflect that.
Can Tijori Vastu stabilize your finances?
Let's be realistic.
A Tijori placement cannot guarantee financial stability.
Financial stability also depends on:
Income
Expenses
Savings
Investments
Debt management
Business decisions
Cash-flow management
Financial planning
But Vastu can be considered as one part of creating an organized and intentional home environment.
So instead of thinking:
“If I move my Tijori, all my money problems will disappear,”
think:
